Tracking the evolution of DPP regulations across industries
As part of the European Green Deal and ESPR, the EU mandates the adoption of a Digital Product Passport (DPP) by 2030 for key industries:
17th of August 2023 - The first DPP directive, named the Battery passport directive came into effect. This directive outlined sustainability targets for several product categories of batteries.
Set concrete requirements on the information and delivery method of the digital product passport for batteries. The plan included a 3-year gradual roll-out of the DPP, whereupon by 2027 the Battery Passports are expected to meet all requirements outlined in the documents.
Battery Pass - 1 phase per year is expected to be implemented during that period, resulting in the whole set of necessary DPP data being adopted for that industry by the end of 2026.
Textiles - In 2024 the EU Parliament submitted a preliminary format for Textile DPPs and they are expected to get their own regulation soon.
